Super Easy Doughnuts Recipe

Ingredients

  • ¼ C warm water
  • 2 packets (or 2 T) yeast
  • 1/3 C shortening
  • ½ C sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 t salt
  • 1 ½ C warm milk
  • 5 C flour
  • oil for frying

Instructions

  • Place the warm water in a large measuring cup. Sprinkle with yeast and allow to foam.
  • In a large bowl, cream the shortening and sugar until fluffy.
  • Add the eggs, one at a time, and mix well
  • Add the salt, milk and yeast mixture, mixing until completely incorporated.
  • Slowly add the flour, a little at a time, until it is completely mixed in.
  • Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead until it’s smooth, about 2-3 minutes.
  • Place in a bowl and cover. Let set until double. Dough is ready when it is pressed and indentations remain.
  • Turn the dough back out onto a floured surface. Roll to about ½ inch thick. Cut doughnuts and place on a floured baking sheet. Cover and let sit 10 minutes.
  • Heat oil in a heavy bottomed stock pot or deep frying pan to 350 degrees F.
  • Slide doughnuts into the hot oil, leaving room for them to move around the pan. Fry until golden brown, turning once during cooking.
  • Remove to paper toweling to cool enough to be able to handle them.
  • Decorate as desired.
  • Serve warm or room temperature.
